Top Tips for Cleaning your Jewellery

Keep your jewellery sparkling all year round with our tips for cleaning your jewellery the right way.

Let’s face it, cleaning jewellery isn’t often at the top of our ‘to do’ lists. But when your jewellery looks dull and tired, a good clean will make a huge difference to the appearance of your favourite jewels - and it only takes a few minutes!

Whether you’re looking for tips to look after your Nomination bracelets, Clogau rings or any other jewellery, we’ve pulled together the ultimate guide for cleaning all types of jewellery so you’ll never lose that ‘just-bought’ glow again.

Taking Care of your Nomination Jewellery

One of the reasons so many of us love Nomination jewellery is that it’s incredibly easy to wear everyday. But in order to keep Nomination jewellery in pristine condition, there are certain things we should try to avoid wherever possible.

Never spray perfume on your jewellery. If you’re wearing a Nomination bracelet or necklace, take it off before you spray perfume on your wrists or neck. Equally, take off your jewellery before applying moisturiser - don’t just try to avoid the jewellery.

If your hands are likely to come into contact with any chemicals, for example while you’re cleaning or swimming, take your jewellery off and keep it somewhere safe. Chemicals like chlorine and bleach can damage the finish of your jewellery and loosen stones.

Even though many Nomination bracelets are made of stainless steel, be aware that the delicate charms can contain elements of gemstones, sterling silver or gold that need extra attention.

When you take your Nomination jewellery off, make sure you keep it somewhere safe. A jewellery box with segments for different pieces of jewellery, or soft pouches for each piece would be ideal.

How to Clean Nomination Jewellery

For stainless steel Nomination jewellery, you can just use warm soapy water with a soft toothbrush. Be gentle, and make sure the bristles of your toothbrush aren’t going to scratch the surface of your jewellery.

To clean sterling silver or gold plated Nomination jewellery, use a dry, soft cloth. Wipe them gently, and do not use a brush.

If your silver Nomination jewellery has started to go black, don’t panic. The oxidising process is common, especially in the summer. Sweat, humidity and exposure to the sun can encourage your silver jewellery to darken and lose its colour. Luckily, it’s an easy problem to solve. Mix a little bit of mild soap with warm water and soak your silver rings, necklaces or bracelets. Rinse off the soap residue, and then dry the jewellery gently with a soft cotton cloth or microfibre cloth.

Taking Care of your Clogau Jewellery

Clogau jewellery shouldn’t be worn all the time.

As with Nomination jewellery, all Clogau jewellery should be removed before physical activities, cleaning and applying any lotions or potions to your skin. Clogau jewellery should be the last item you put on, and the first you take off.

Don’t wear your Clogau jewellery to bed. As well as a choking hazard, jewellery can get damaged if it is knocked or dislodged during the night. The only exception to this is wedding rings. Provided they are a good fit, these are fine to sleep in.

Even though Clogau jewellery presentation boxes are lovely, they aren’t suitable for storing jewellery long term. Instead, store it in compartmentalised boxes and avoid placing diamonds in with any other piece of jewellery. Diamonds are harder than any metal and will scratch other jewellery.

How to Clean Clogau Jewellery

If your Clogau jewellery contains pearls, make sure you wipe them with a soft damp cloth after wearing, and clean regularly with a soft polishing cloth. A polishing cloth with a tarnish preventative would be ideal. Once clean, use a lint-free cloth to dry the pearls.

To clean Clogau jewellery with gemstones, use a soft brush and soapy water.

To clean white gold rings, or wedding rings, wipe them regularly with clothes and keep them clean by storing them in an appropriate place when you aren’t wearing them.
